1. State whether the following statements are True or False.
a. True
b. False
c. False
d. False
2. Match the following:
Mouse ===> Points and selects GUI objects
Printer ===> It produces the hard copy output
ALU ===> Performs mathematical calculations
ROM ==> The instructions stored in it can not be changed by the user
Pendrive ==> It can be considered as a small external hard disk
3. Answer the following questions:
a. Define the term Computer hardware.
Ans: Computer hardware are the physical parts of computer, which make up complete computer system. For eg, Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, etc
b. What are input devices? List any two input devices.
Ans: The devices that are used to enter data and
instructions into the computer are called input devices. Eg. Keyboard, Mouse,
Scanner, Web camera, Joystick etc
c. What is processing devices? Write the name of processing
devices.
Ans: The device which are used to process raw data according
to set of instructions are called processing devices. Eg. CPU
d. What are output devices? Name any two common output devices.
Ans: The devices which are used to give the processed result of the computer are called output devices. Eg. Monitor, Printer, Plotters, Speaker
etc.
e. Differentiate between soft copy output and hard copy
output.
Ans: The different between Soft-copy and hard-copy output
are given below.
Soft Copy Output | Hard Copy Output |
---|---|
a. It is in electronic form | a. It is in printed form |
b. It is easier to modify | b. It is difficult to modify. |
c. It is stored on storage devices | c. It is printed on paper. |
d. It is intangible | d. It is tangible |
f. What are storage devices? Write two such devices.
Ans: The devices which are used to store data and program in
the computer are called storage device. eg RAM, Hard disk etc.
g. What is primary memory? What are its types.
Ans: The primary memory is
the main memory or internal memory of the computer where data and
instruction are stored while executing the program.
Types of primary memory are :
i. RAM ii. ROM
h. What are the difference between RAM and ROM?
Ans: The difference between ROM and RAM are given below.
ROM | RAM |
---|---|
a. It stand for Read only memory | a. It stand for Random Access Memory |
b. It is non volatile or permanent memory. | b. It is volatile or temporary memory |
c. It is startup memory of a computer | c. It is working memory of computer. It is volatile or temporary memory |
d. We can read but can't write in it | d. We can read and write |
i. What is CPU? List its major parts.
Ans: CPU also called microprocessor is a main processing device of the computer. It is also considered as brain of the computer which all the arithmetic and logical operations in computer.
The major parts of CPU are :
- Control Unit
- Arithmetic Logic Unit
- Registers.
j. Write short notes on the following:
i. Keyboard
Keyboard is the basic and fundamental input device of a computer. There are different types of keys on the keyboard by pressing these keys we can give command to the computer. We can input data and instructions in to a computer by pressing keys on the computer.
ii. Control unit
Control unit is used to
control and manage all the activities of the computer system. It controls the execution of instructions given to the computer. It communicates between ALU, registers and memory.
iii. Printer
Printer is the
basic output device that is used to print the output on the paper. The output printed on the paper is called hard copy output so the output
given by the printer is known as hard copy output. eg. Dot Matrix printer,
Laser printer, Inkjet printer.
iv. Cloud Storage
It is a service model in which data are stored on remote storage systems. where it is maintained, managed, backed up and made available to users over the internet. Amazon Web Services, Google and Microsoft Azure are the cloud storage service providers.
k. What is projector? What are two common types of projectors?
Ans: The output device which takes images generated by a Blu - ray player or a computer and projects them onto a large surface like a wall or white screen is called projector.
The two common types of projectors are
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Digital Light Processing (DLP)
